February: I Love to Read Month

Each year, "I Love to Read Month" is a special time to celebrate the joy of reading and promote literacy in our schools. This past February, CCS joined in the fun with themed activities, reading challenges, guest visits, and interactive book exploration, fostering engagement and excitement across our whole community.

This year, our elementary schools participated in the One School, One Book program, where each student read Gooseberry Park by Cynthia Rylant. At home, students completed reading assignments with their families, while at school, themed snacks, daily challenges, and discussions brought the story to life. Sharing the heartwarming tale of Stumpy, a brave squirrel, and her animal friends coming together after a storm brought the themes of fun, connection, and teamwork into our schools, just like in Gooseberry Park!

We also welcomed community members, student ambassadors, and special guests into classrooms as guest readers and writing mentors. These visitors made read-alouds exciting and provided inspiration as students created their own short stories.

Meanwhile, our middle school students took part in several "Stop, Drop, and Read" events throughout the month. These impromptu sessions, designed to highlight the importance of always having a book on hand, gave students dedicated time to dive into reading and enjoy literature throughout the day.

"I Love to Read Month" remains a wonderful opportunity to inspire readers of all ages. Through shared experiences, family and community involvement, and special reading time, students are cultivating habits that support a lifelong love of reading.
