Students have many opportunities for hands-on learning that engages their minds in creative and exciting ways. Newly renovated classrooms with state-of-the-art technology and equipment, plus best-practice learning methods that incorporate cross-curricular exploration of topics, provide Cathedral students with an amazing environment to master their learning and form deeply informative connections and experiences. 

Project-Based Learning

Project-Based Learning Inspires critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration, curiosity, connection and confidence!

Cathedral middle school incorporates Project-Based Learning (PBL), a student-centered approach that focuses on teamwork and application of ideas to allow for greater comprehension and retention of course materials. With Project-Based Learning, students make a personal connection to the material, and to each other, to create powerful learning experiences. Project-based learning contrasts a conventional Middle School curriculum by getting the subject material out of text books and into dedicated, interactive learning spaces where students work collaboratively to find solutions. They test hypotheses, solve problems and find practical applications in their discovery and project work.

  • Languages & Cultural Exploration

    Cathedral Middle School students explore the world through language classes and cultural studies. In 6th grade, they begin learning about global cultures, with Spanish marking the start of the language program. In 7th grade, they sample Spanish, Chinese, German, and ASL to choose a language for 8th grade and beyond.

  • Active Learning

    PBL is learning by doing, exploring, reflecting and refining. PBL gives students the chance to engage in an extended, thorough process of questioning, finding resources, and applying information. With this active learning, students gain deeper understanding and retention of course materials.

  • Career Exploration

    At Cathedral, students can interact with professionals, businesses, and organizations in their community that relate to the projects they are engaged in, from the trades industry to medicine to education, and more.

  • Content & Context

    PBL blends concept and theory into meaningful work. Students build a deeper understanding about how the things they are learning in subjects such as Math, Science, and English, can be applied in the real world and benefit them throughout their lives.

  • Creativity & Innovation

    PBL learning is all about thinking outside the box. PBL combines different subjects and fields with realistic situations and applied methods. Best of all, mistakes are not seen as failures but as learning opportunities. If at first a project does not succeed, students can modify their approach and try again!
