St. Mary Help of Christians: Leading by Example with Reading

Leading by Example with Reading

Our teachers enjoyed the opportunity to read student-recommended books as a way to encourage more reading. Principal Kelly Kirks was able to read a fiction book for the first time in a while! Reader’s theater was a big hit with the students. They were able to bring book characters to life and loved sharing their knowledge with their classmates.

Emphasis on Service

A new service initiative was introduced this past school year that recognizes impact in our community. The Serving Saint Award was given to Amanda Carlson, for her commitment to students and our school. She has led the Harvest Celebration (big fundraiser) for 12 years and served as one of the first Catholic Community Schools board members. She is always someone you can count on for wisdom and support. The best fun fact is that she is also a SMHOCS alumni!

Creative Connections Counseling Services Successful

A new partnership with Creative Connections started in March 2023 and continued into this past year. This addition ensures that we focus on our whole student approach including mental health services. It’s definitely made a difference in our school.
